PRESENT OPERATING INFORMATION

The District serves over 90% of Lancaster County with water services to over 17,000 retail water taps and serves approximately 4,500 retail customers with sewer service. The District also provides wholesale water service to neighboring customers such as the City of Lancaster, Town of Heath Springs, Town of Kershaw, portions of Chesterfield County, portions of Mecklenburg County, & portions of Carolina Water Service. Sewer treatment for the District’s sewer customers is provided by either via a service agreement with the City of Lancaster or via the District’s Indian Land Wastewater Treatment Facility. The District workforce consists of 39 full time employees. All of the District’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems’ information are on GIS computer mapping system. All distribution system maintenance programs and records are on computer including Hydrants, Valve Maintenance Programs, Cross Connection Program, and Flushing Program.

WATER TREATMENT

In 1991, the District entered into a very unique Joint Venture Agreement with Union County, NC to construct and operate a water treatment facility known as the Catawba River Water Treatment Facility. This agreement is unique in many ways including cooperation between two counties in two different states. This facility is also unique in that it pumps water into two different drainage basins (Catawba Basin and Lynches River Basin), thus requiring a Water Basin Transfer agreement because water is taken from one basin and discharged into another. In 2004, this facility was expanded from 18 MGD to 36 MGD to meet the needs of existing and future customers. This facility has continually supplied a very high quality of water to the customers and meets or exceeds all State and Federal Drinking Water Regulations.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT

By way of an agreement with the City of Lancaster, all wastewater around the City of Lancaster area is discharged to and treated by the City of Lancaster’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

In 2001, the District constructed a new wastewater treatment facility to accommodate the growing Indian Land community of Lancaster County. This facility has continually produced a very high quality discharge product into the Catawba River which meets or exceeds all State and Federal Regulations.

NEW WATER CONSTRUCTION

In 2005, the District will install a 24" water transmission main line from the Catawba River Water Treatment Plant up Van Wyck Road to serve the growing Indian Land community.

NEW WASTEWATER CONSTRUCTION

Beginning in 2004, the District will install wastewater service along Bear Creek to serve the existing Elginwood Subdivision. This important project will alleviate failing septic systems in this area. The estimated construction time frame for this project is approximately 3 years.
